Public Works / Water Department
Public Works. The Shavano Park Public Works Department conducts master planning and continuously provides essential public infrastructure services in a prompt, courteous, safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner to the citizens and business owners of Shavano Park in order to meet current and long-term infrastructure services. Public Works maintains roads, drainage infrastracture and public facilities across the City.
Water Utility. The Shavano Park Water Utility Department continuously provides safe and reliable drinking water and maintains essential public work infrastructure for the service connections within the City in order to provide long-term first-class water utility support to our citizens. The City of Shavano Park’s water distribution system currently serves a large portion of the City — 711 accounts. The Department maintains the infrastructure which includes a number of wells, pumps, ground and elevated storage tanks.

The neighborhoods of Old Shavano Park (both east and west) and Shavano Estates are on the Shavano Park Water Utility. The rest of the residential and commercial subdivisons utilize the San Antonio Water System (SAWS).
ISO Rating - Water Service
The Insurance Services Office, Inc (ISO) collects information on municipal fire protection efforts in communities and analyzes the data using a Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). ISO will then assign a Public Protection Classification (PPC) ranging from 1 to 10, with 1 being the best and 10 the worst. On June 10, 2016 the City of Shavano Park Fire Department received a classification of 2, effective November 1, 2016. The City received 80.07 out of 109.76 points possible in an audit conducted February 17, 2016. The Water Department plays a key role in providing needed water for fire suppression and was graded as a part of the ISO audit along with the Fire Department.
This rating entitles the residential and commercial property owners within the City of Shavano Park to receive the maximum credit on their insurance premiums (Class 1 and Class 2 rating receives the same credit.). Property owners should contact their insurance providers to inquire if their premiums will be impacted by the new classification rating. With a Class 2 ISO rate, Shavano Park property owners are estimated to realize a 10 to 15% decrease in property insurance premiums.
